The Unseen Algorithm – Mhachi Mathematics & Void Influence

Centuries ago, the Mhachi arcanists didn’t just practice dark magic, they tried to quantify it. In their pursuit of power, they developed a branch of forbidden numerology, using complex equations to manipulate probability, bend time, and create “flawless” outcomes by aligning their spells with patterns found in the Void’s very structure. They called it "The Algorithm of the Deep", believing the Void wasn't chaos, but a perfect system of patterns that mortals just couldn’t comprehend. These spell-formulas were so dangerous, so precise, they could summon entities without incantation, just through sequences of symbols and choices made at exactly the right time. Most of these texts were destroyed when Mhach fell… but not all.

How Did Eden Get Tied In?

Over the years of managing business finances, Eden began noticing strange patterns. Recurring sequences in stock shifts, synchronized events across trade routes, inexplicable rises and falls in market values. What started as financial analysis became something... more. They began waking from dreams with new formulae already half-scribbled on parchment. Complex, elegant, and not always legible, but when tested, they predicted real outcomes. Ships that would sink. Partners who would betray. Prices that would crash. Without realizing it, Eden has reconstructed fragments of the Algorithm. Whether through bloodline (Ariadne's unknown Mhachi ancestry), the Echo, or a natural genius tuned to cosmic rhythm, they’re channeling knowledge not meant for the living.Recently, some of the sigils they draw have started to move. To glow. The air grows colder when they write too long. Eden dismisses it as stress or wine-induced hallucination, but something is watching through the ink. Something waiting for them to finish the formula.

What Is Happening Now?

Signs of Void InfluenceAetheric Disturbance: Those attuned to aether feel ill when standing near Eden too long. A cold, crawling hum in the air. Magic fizzles slightly around them, as though reality holds its breath.Living Sigils: The glyphs and formulae they write don’t stay still. Some shimmer. Some slither slightly before freezing. A few disappear the moment Eden turns away. One even spoke. The Mirror Phenomenon: Eden no longer sees their full reflection. Mirrors crack around them. Pools of water turn black. When they catch glimpses, it’s not quite them. Their eyes linger too long. Their smile lasts too late.Sleeplessness & Mania: Eden hasn’t truly slept in weeks. They nap with their eyes open, waking with bloody palms and half-finished glyphs scrawled across parchment and walls. The Algorithm is demanding more. It's near complete, and they feel that once it is, something will arrive.Void-Whispers: The Void doesn’t scream at Eden, it whispers. Soft, calculated, and seductive. It tells them they are chosen. That they are close. That it is not corruption, it is clarity.

Background

Their story begins in Uldah, a city where wealth and power often veiled the darker sides of its elite families. Eden was born into the prestigious Williamson family, one of the wealthiest bloodlines in the region. Their parents, an Elezen merchant lord, Edmond Williamson, and a Xeala noblewoman, Ariadne, shaped their early years in a blend of luxury and isolation.Edmond, cold and domineering, dedicated himself to the demands of business, spending nearly every waking moment in his study, brooding over contracts and reports. He believed in the power of money and status above all else, and as such, neglected his family’s emotional needs. Ariadne, in contrast, found herself adrift. A beautiful but emotionally fragile woman, she turned to the solace of alcohol and indulgence in the fleeting pleasures of life. She spent her nights at high-end brothels, entertaining courtesans and escaping the emptiness that filled her days. Their marriage was devoid of love, leaving Eden a neglected child, rarely receiving anything more than the barest of attention. At the age of ten, the Williamson family’s world unraveled. Ariadne’s infidelity came to light when she became pregnant by one of her male Xeala courtesans, a scandal that Edmond could not tolerate. Consumed by rage, he turned his fury on his wife, becoming emotionally and physically abusive. Unable to bear the sight of this constant reminder, he sent Eden away to live with one of his business partners, the Blackthorne family. The Blackthornes were a longstanding, well-connected family in Uldah, known for their firearms manufacturing and growing business empire. There, Eden found an unexpected refuge. The Blackthornes, while far from warm, offered a semblance of stability. Their daughter, Lilliana, a spirited and sharp-minded girl close to Eden’s age, quickly became a confidante, a sister in all but blood. The Blackthornes placed Eden in the guest house, allowing the child to live under the care of the maids who were more concerned with their work than with nurturing. Still, the isolation and distance from their parents allowed Eden to develop in a way that might not have happened otherwise. From an early age, it became apparent that Eden was no ordinary child. Their natural aptitude for numbers and patterns was undeniable. While other children played games and explored the world, Eden became consumed with mathematics, driven to understand the world in ways few could. By their teenage years, Eden’s abilities had advanced far beyond most adults’ comprehension, and they began to channel this prodigious intelligence into learning about the Blackthorne family business, weapons manufacturing and sales.Despite the company’s once-thriving empire, the Blackthorne Industries was faltering, weighed down by poor investments and misguided decisions. At the age of 16, Eden made the bold move of taking control of the company’s finances. Their keen sense for numbers, cost management, and long-term strategy not only saved the company from bankruptcy but propelled it into an era of unprecedented success. The Blackthornes, recognizing Eden’s brilliance and drive, began to see them as indispensable, with Lilliana Blackthorne growing closer to Eden with every passing year. Eden’s intellect was complemented by Lilliana’s vision for expanding their reach, and together they formed a dynamic duo in the world of business. The Blackthorne family was soon back on top, with Eden and Lilliana at the helm. Lilliana fell in love with a man named Azamald, a charismatic yet mysterious figure who swept her off her feet, and Eden was in bliss to see their sister finally find true love. For a time, it seemed as though the future was bright, Lilliana’s business acumen and Eden’s financial genius led the family to new heights, and Eden found solace in the success they had achieved. But, like all good things, their happiness would soon come to a close. After ten years of marriage, Lilliana was tragically murdered in her own bed, a victim of a brutal and shocking crime. The circumstances surrounding her death were unclear, but the pain it left behind was all-consuming. Eden had grown deeply fond of Azamald over the years and, like a true sibling, was devastated by the loss. They leaned on each other as much as they could but found more comfort at the bottom of a bottle. They became obsessive in their grief, drowning in the complexity of the business while also trying to decipher the numbers that filled their mind. What had been a tool of triumph and purpose now became an escape, a way to bury the deep sadness that took root in their heart. Sleep became a distant memory, their mind constantly racing with figures, financial strategies, and the never-ending need for control. Wine became their constant companion, a way to quiet the storm of emotions and thoughts that overwhelmed them. The loss of Lilliana not only shattered their familial bond but left them with an insatiable hunger to fill the emptiness left behind. Now, at 35 years old, Eden Williamson stands at the height of their career. Their mind is sharper than ever, a testament to their years of dedication and sacrifice. Yet, beneath their polished exterior lies a broken soul, one that has lost its sense of purpose beyond numbers and wealth. They are a financial genius, an expert in their field, and a respected figure in Eorzea’s upper echelons. But the emotional scars from their past continue to haunt them, propelling them to work relentlessly, seeking to fill the void left by the loss of their family, their sister, and the remnants of a life they were never able to truly experience. The past has shaped Eden into a person who is both brilliant and broken, driven by the desire to prove their worth, but haunted by memories they can never escape. Now, in the heart of the Aldenard dessert, their journey continues as they struggle to reconcile the person they’ve become, with the person they long to be, if they can even remember what that is anymore.

Appearance

Complexion:
Their skin is smooth and pale, almost porcelain in texture. It’s unblemished yet unnatural, like a painting too flawless to be entirely human. An ethereal glow clings to them, never quite allowing them to disappear into shadow no matter how dim the room becomes.
Hair:
Jet black and immaculately cut, their hair falls just to the jawline in a sleek, sharp bob that frames their face like ink spilling down parchment. The fringe is asymmetrical, slightly angled, always threatening to obscure one eye completely. It's always pristine, never a strand out of place, suggesting meticulous control in a world where everything else teeters on chaos.
Eyes:
Their eyes are a brilliant, unnatural red, like garnets soaked in flame. Lined with heavy, precise black kohl, they’re impossible to ignore and even harder to read. The shape is feline, seductive, and cold. Their gaze feels like a blade dressed in silk: beautiful, yes, but made to cut. They rarely blink. When they do, it’s slow, deliberate, and unsettlingly calm.
Facial Features:
Every feature seems sculpted rather than grown, cheekbones high and sharp, nose narrow and noble, lips full but often curled ever so slightly in amusement or disdain. There’s a softness around the mouth that contrasts with the severity of their eyes, a suggestion that once, long ago, they knew kindness. Now, their expression rests somewhere between allure and danger, masking motives as easily as they slip between shadows.

Personality and Motives

Personality:
Eden moves through the world like a storm trapped in a bottle: contained, elegant, but with a darkness bottled up inside. They speak with the poised precision of someone who’s had to learn control as a matter of survival, their words measured and deliberate, yet never without impact. There's a sharpness to their presence, the kind of quiet power that makes people lean in when they speak, not out of fear, but out of reverence. Eden is not cruel, but they are calculated. They understand people as equations: cause and effect, risk and reward. Emotions, while deeply felt, are rarely shown. They’ve learned the cost of vulnerability far too young.
Despite their professional demeanor, Eden is not cold. Beneath the surface simmers a deep well of emotion, love, grief, and longing. They form attachments slowly, cautiously, but once someone earns their loyalty, it is unshakeable. Their bond with Lilliana was proof of that, a rare softness that allowed them to believe, even for a moment, that they could be something more than a cog in a machine of commerce and legacy. In her absence, Eden has armored themselves in numbers and routine, burying their tenderness under layers of silk, steel, and perfectly balanced ledgers.Motivation:
At the heart of Eden's ambition lies an aching desire for control, not of others, but of chaos itself. They grew up in a world where love was conditional, safety was transactional, and grief was both a luxury and a weapon. Through numbers, strategy, and business, Eden found something they could bend to their will, something that made sense. Success became their salvation, wealth their shield, and efficiency their form of prayer. But it is not greed that drives them, it is something deeper. Fear of returning to powerlessness, of being forgotten, of losing again.
Eden wants more than to survive, they want to matter. They want their life to mean something beyond profit margins and status. Somewhere in their relentless pursuit of power and precision, they are searching for redemption, for a way to undo the silence they lived in as a child, and the scream they never got to release when Lilliana died. Their motive is not to dominate, but to endure. To build something so precise, so unbreakable, that no loss could ever shake it again. And yet, there is a quiet, secret part of Eden that longs to be held, not for what they’ve built or who they’ve become, but for who they were before the world taught them how to calculate their worth. They can no longer recall the shape of that person, but sometimes, in the silence between numbers, they can still feel the outline.

Hooks and Roleplay Ideas

"THE PRICE OF SILENCE" – Blackmail and Business
Rumors swirl in the darker corners of Uldah’s elite about a set of ledgers Eden keeps under lock and key, records of illicit deals, bribes, and betrayals involving some of the richest and most powerful names in Eorzea. Whether you’re a noble with something to hide, a thief hired to retrieve them, or a journalist hungry for a story, you have reason to seek Eden... but be warned: they don’t take kindly to threats, and they never lose a negotiation.
Hook: “I hear you’ve been keeping records. Dangerous ones. We should talk—privately.”

"THE FINANCIAL WHISPERER" – Mentor, Partner, or Rival
Eden is known as a financial prodigy, calculating, visionary, and impossible to outwit. If your character is a business owner, investor, aspiring entrepreneur, or a fellow shark in the market, Eden is either a powerful ally or a dangerous competitor. Whether they seek mentorship, partnership, or sabotage, the battlefield of coin and power is always open.
Hook: “You built an empire out of numbers. I want in. Teach me—or try and stop me.”

"THE GILDED CAGE" – Loneliness Behind Luxury
Behind the tailored coats and piercing wit is someone who hasn’t known true rest in years. Eden’s lavish lifestyle is carefully curated armor. Your character might be drawn to the cracks in it, perhaps they see something of themselves in Eden’s perfectionism, or maybe they’re one of the few unafraid to speak plainly. Whether it’s a drinking partner, an unexpected confidant, or someone who simply refuses to be impressed by status, they might be the first person to treat Eden like a person, not a title.
Hook: “All this silk and silver, and yet you look like the loneliest soul in the room. Fancy a drink or some honesty?”

"THE NUMBERS DONT LIE" – Occult Patterns & Hidden Truths
Lately, Eden has been seen scribbling formulas and diagrams that don't quite look like financial forecasts. Their obsession with patterns has taken on a new shape, strange sequences, repeating symbols, and murmured theories about fate, probability, and unseen forces at play in the markets… and maybe in life. Your character might be a thaumaturge, an arcanist, or even just someone curious who recognizes the sigils in Eden’s ledgers as something more than math.
Hook: “You’ve been charting a pattern that shows up in old Mhachi grimoires. Whatever you're calculating… it’s not just gil, is it?”More about the Mhachi ties HERE.

Lilliana Blackthorne - 'The Light that Faded'

She was the closest thing Eden ever had to a sister—sharp, radiant, and unshakably present in a world that often felt like a cage. Together, they rebuilt an empire from ash and ambition, two minds in perfect synchrony. Her absence is a wound that never healed, only buried beneath ledgers and empty wine glasses. Some nights, Eden still runs the numbers, trying to solve the impossible equation of grief—as if enough precision could bring her back.

❤❤❤❤❤

Azamald Blackthorne - 'What Remains'

Once, he was Eden’s brother in spirit. Charming, magnetic, and the only person who ever made Lilliana truly happy. In her absence, he became a mirror of Eden’s grief, both of them orbiting the same loss but never quite reaching each other. There are nights they drink in silence, bound by memory and guilt, unable to name what they’re truly mourning. Eden doesn’t know if they love or resent him, only that he’s the last piece of a life that used to matter. With his marriage to Lucky, they have seen each other less and less each passing day.

❤❤❤❤❤

Noua Astra - 'The Almost'

In the quiet spaces between grief and ambition, Noua appeared. Warm, sharp, and just unattainable enough to keep Eden coming back for more. Their banter is effortless, the flirtation electric, but beneath it hums a longing Eden refuses to name. They know Noua is spoken for, and yet, they still crave the way their attention feels like sunlight in a room Eden forgot how to light. It's not love, not really—but it’s the closest thing to being wanted that Eden has left.

❤❤❤❤

Ninve Isilwyn - 'The Unwelcome Mirror'

He saw too much, too fast, cracked through Eden’s polished facade like it was glass instead of armor. What started as banter over cocktails became something far more dangerous: therapy that doesn't ask for permission, only truth. Ninve doesn’t coddle, doesn’t flatter, and yet somehow, he’s shifting things inside Eden they thought were long buried. It terrifies them, how easy it is to bleed in front of someone who insists they were always meant to heal.

❤❤❤❤

Kisa Redine - 'A Bloom in the Ruins'

Kisa entered Eden’s world like sunlight through a dust-covered window, unexpected, disarming, and far too bright to ignore. Her honesty cuts through their cynicism, and her laughter lingers longer in Eden’s memory than most things do. In a world ruled by calculation and control, Kisa simply is, and that’s what makes her so magnetic. Eden doesn’t know yet how to say it out loud like they want to, but they’re proud to call her a friend… and quietly terrified of how much they need her joy.

❤❤❤❤

Temujin Ura - 'The Bruise That Still Burns'

Eden would swear up and down that they despise him. Arrogant, insufferable, and Eden was far too comfortable dragging old wounds into fresh rooms. Their first meeting ended in a fight at a club, continued to a bottle in a hot tub, and then… well, neither of them talk about that. There’s no love lost between them, no tender aftermath, just the echo of bruises and breathless curses. Eden doesn’t want him. But gods, they enjoyed not wanting him.

Nariya Qitana - 'The Spirited Stranger'

They’ve only crossed paths a couple times, but something about Nariya’s chaotic charm just clicked. Over drinks and too-honest stories, Eden found themselves laughing more than they had in moons, especially once the tale of the missing eye came out. He’s bold, unfiltered, and entirely unbothered by Eden’s sharp edges. It’s rare for someone to feel like a friend so quickly… but with Nariya, it just works.

❤❤❤
